  NEDA Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon delivering the Philippine Country Statement at the 74th Session of the UNESCAP

The Philippines successfully participated in the recently concluded 74th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand on 11-16 May 2018, where the Philippine-sponsored and co-sponsored resolutions on civil registration and vital statistics and disaster risk-related statistics were adopted by consensus.

Undersecretary Rosemarie G. Edillon of the National Economic and Development Agency (NEDA) headed the Philippine Delegation composed of representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Department of Science and Technology, Department of Information and Communications Technology, University of the Philippines, Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization and the Embassy of the Philippines in Bangkok.

Undersecretary Edillon delivered the Philippine country statement highlighting the long term vision of the Philippine Development Plan for reducing inequality and attaining prosperity for a Philippines where every Filipino lives a quality life in a high trust society.  She also participated as a discussant at the high-level dialogue on Frontier technological innovations: policies to accelerate the achievements of the Sustainable Development Goals, in which she discussed how technological innovation and sound policies will steer the Philippines towards inclusive growth, a high-trust and resilient society and a globally competitive knowledge economy.

The 74th Commission Session, with the theme “Inequality in the era of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,” was attended by Heads of Governments, Ministers and high-level officials across the Asia-Pacific region.
