On 16 October 2017, Ambassador Mary Jo A. Bernardo-Aragon attended the 37th World Food Day Celebration organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific.

The 2017 World Food Day theme is “Change the future of migration. Invest in food security and rural development”, which aims to bring the world’s attention on the need to better understand the link between migration, food security and the need for greater rural development and investment to ensure that migration is an option and not a movement made under force.

The guest of honor, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, who is also the UN FAO Special Ambassador for Zero Hunger in Asia and the Pacific presented the “model farmers” award to five farmers from Afghanistan, Indonesia, Japan, Nepal and Thailand because of their special and innovative approaches to the region’s food systems.
