The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok hosted a reception on 25 January to mark the Philippine Chairship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2017. During the reception, Ambassador Mary Jo A. Bernardo-Aragon introduced the theme of the Philippine Chairship: “Partnering for Change, Engaging the World.”

Ambassador Bernardo-Aragon identified the six thematic priorities of the Philippine Chairship, which are making a people-oriented and people-centered ASEAN; maintaining peace and stability in the region; pursuing maritime security and cooperation; advancing inclusive and innovation-led growth; strengthening ASEAN resiliency; and promoting ASEAN as a model of regionalism and as a global player.

The program featured the Philippine Chairship of ASEAN video presentation and a cultural performance by volunteer Filipino secondary-level students, who interpreted the song “Magkakaugnay” by Mr. Joey Ayala.
