The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok observed Autism Consciousness Week 2017 during its flag raising ceremony on 16 January 2017 with a reading of a brief introduction to autism and a short promise (1Pangako) to work towards ending the wrong use of the word “autistic” and to furthering wider acceptance and care for people with disabilities.
The Embassy also promoted the observance through its Facebook page and website.
According to the National Commission on Disability Affairs (NCDA), an estimated 600,000 families are affected by autism in the Philippines.
Everyone is encouraged to support Autism Consciousness Week by promoting awareness of the problems of autism, and nurturing supportive environments for those who have been diagnosed with autism, so that they can live independently with dignity. They should also be given the opportunity to contribute and be recognized for their positive contributions to the development of society.
