The Gilas Pilipinas Cadets won gold in the 5th Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) Stankovic Cup 2016 held on 28 May 2016, qualifying them for the 2016 FIBA Asia Challenge to be held in Iran from September 9 to 18, 2016. 

The cadets were consistently undefeated in the elimination round.  The team started their tour in the regional basketball championship with a dominant 108-84 win over Malaysia before beating the Singaporeans, 81-59, in their second game.  The team also notched a win over Indonesia, 83-52, followed by a narrow win over Thailand, 66-65.  Gilas cadets finally outclassed Thailand, 97-80, to claim the gold medal and the FIBA Asia seat. 

The 5th SEABA Stankovic Cup 2016 was participated in by teams from Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand and was held at Stadium 29 by Mono29 Studio located in Pakkred, Nonthaburi, Thailand, from 22 to 28 May 2016.

The Gilas Pilipinas Cadet team players is composed of Reymark Belo,  Russel Escoto, Kevin Ferrer, Ken Holmqvist, Jiovani Jalalon,  Raymar Jose,   Von Rolfe Pessumal, Roger Pogoy, Jeth Troy Rosario, Jonas Raphael Tibayan, Cris Michael Tolomia and Almond Vosotros.  The Head Coach is Nash Racela while Assistant Coaches are Michael Oliver and Joshua Vincent Racela.
