The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok commemorates International Women’s Day on 8 March 2016 under the UN Women’s regional theme of “Planet 50-50 by 2030: Step it up for gender equality.”   

A commemorative event was also organized by the United Nations Asia-Pacific Regional Coordination Mechanism Thematic Working Group on Gender Equality and Empowerment ofWomen(RCM-TWG-GEEW), co-chaired by ESCAP and UNWomen, on 8 March 2016 at the UN Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. 

The event featured a panel discussion on challenges, gaps and opportunities towards achieving gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals.

Ambassador Mary Jo Bernardo-Aragon with Ms. Chloe Reynaldo, member of the panel and Y-Peer Activist.  The 15-year old activist espouses on rights of the youth in order to be responsible citizens when they become adults.
