The Philippine team to the 56th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) heldon 4-16 July 2015 in Chiang Mai, Thailand, won two silver and two bronze medals, and also received one honorable mention at the most prestigious world math competition for high school students.
Clyde Wesley S. Ang (Chiang Kai Shek College) and Adrian Reginald C. Sy (St. Jude Catholic School) won silver medals. Bronze went to Farrell Eldrian S. Wu (MGC New Life Christian Academy) and Albert John L. Patupat (Holy Rosary College) while Kyle Patrick F. Dulay of Philippine Science High School-Main received an honorable mention. Raymond Joseph C. Fadri (Makati Science High School) completed the six-man team.
According to team leader Dr. Jose Ernie Lope of UP Diliman, the team placed 36th out of 104 competing countries, bringing the Philippines closer to Asian powerhouses Hong Kong (28th) and Indonesia (29th), and beating the usually strong countries of Belarus (39th) and the Netherlands (43rd). Dr. Lope said this is the best finish for the Philippines since it first participated in the annual event in 1989. END
