Ambassador Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia, presented a lecture on Philippine Textiles and Costumes at The Siam Society office on 14 October 2014. The lecture was organized by the Siam Society as part of its program to promote ASEAN cultural activities, in collaboration with the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok.
Ambassador Batoon-Garcia discussed the evolution of Philippine national dress and the variety of indigenous Filipino textiles and designs as well as how traditional textiles and designs have been adopted to contemporary tastes.
An exhibition of costumes from the Cordillera, the central Philippines, non-Muslim and Muslim people of Mindanao. This was accompanied by pictorial exhibit of Philippine textiles based on digital files of the National Museum of the Philippines textile collection and the National Commission of Culture and the Arts. The guests also enjoyed Philippine food.
Guests included Mrs. Bilaibhan Sampastisiri, President of The Siam Society and member of the National Legislative Assembly, and experts on textiles and textile conservation. END
