PHILIPPINE DELEGATION PARTICIPATES IN THE 70TH SESSION OF THE UNESCAP COMMISSION

A Philippine Delegation headed by Ambassador Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia attended the 70th Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission in Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP CS70) Phase I and Phase II held on 23 May and 4 to 8 August 2014, respectively, in Bangkok, Thailand.

During Phase I of UNESCAP CS70, the Philippines sponsored the resolution 70/2 on disaster related statistics. The resolution called for the establishment of an expert group comprising statisticians and disaster risk reduction experts to work towards developing a basic range of disaster-related statistics. Ambassador Batoon-Garcia co-chaired CS70 Phase I with Papua New Guinea and CS70 Phase II – Committee of the Whole II with Solomon Islands. During Phase II, the Philippines delivered a country statement on the theme “regional connectivity for shared responsibility.”
