BANGKOK, 23 JANUARY 2025 - Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand H.E. Millicent Cruz Paredes paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mongkol Surasajja, President of the Senate and Vice President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Thailand, on 22 January 2025.

Ambassador Paredes and Senate President Mongkol expressed great satisfaction with the further deepening of relations between the Philippines and Thailand, propelled by the yearlong celebration of the milestone 75th Anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship between the two countries on 14 June 1949.

They discussed the various commemorative activities held under the ambit of the 75th Anniversary, notably the visits to the Philippines of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Foreign Minister of Thailand Maris Sangiampongsa, and Thailand of then Senate President Juan Miguel F. Zubiri, and Secretary for Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo.

Ambassador Paredes also conveyed the Philippines’ appreciation for the warm reception of the Thai Parliament for visiting members of the Philippine Senate and House of Representatives. Senate President Mongkol said that such visits and the close collaboration in inter-parliamentary bodies such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union, Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF), and ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) demonstrate the very close parliamentary cooperation between the Philippines and Thailand.
