BANGKOK, 06 NOVEMBER 2024 - The Hon. Antonio T. Carpio, retired Senior Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippines, delivered his lecture entitled “Philippine Island Territories in the West Philippine Sea” on 01 and 02 November 2024 to various audiences in Bangkok, Thailand.
The events were organized by the Embassy of the Philippines in Bangkok, with the generous support of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines, as part of the all-of-government promotion of the country’s implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the 2016 Award on the South China Sea Arbitration Case.
Justice Carpio, a respected authority and recognized expert on international law and the law of the sea, has delivered his lectures at various universities, think-tanks, among other events organized by Philippine embassies and consulates across the world.
In Bangkok, Justice Carpio presented at a roundtable discussion with guests of the Embassy and delivered a public lecture at Thammasat University, one of Thailand’s top universities. The Embassy co-organized the university lecture with the Faculty of Political Science under its Masters in International Relations lecture series that discusses multiple perspectives on regional and global issues.
Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes conveyed the Embassy’s deep appreciation to Justice Carpio for his contribution to furthering the open, inclusive, and frank dialogue among stakeholders, scholars, and interested individuals in Thailand.
The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok continues its efforts to create greater awareness of the Philippine position on the importance of international law in settling disputes peacefully. END
