BANGKOK, 31 OCTOBER 2024 - Ambassador Millicent Cruz Paredes warmly welcomed the Philippine Robotics team at the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok following their participation in the 2024 World Robot Contest held at the Chonburi Technical College on 25-26 October 2024.
Mr. Roxan Ruchillo S. Cosico, coach and head of the delegation, proudly shared that the Philippine team was among the distinguished finalists in a competitive field of 140 teams from five countries, comprising over 1,000 participants. He expressed hope that next year, more Philippine schools would be able to join and represent the country in similar competitions overseas.
The students who represented the Philippines in the competition were Antonio Javier O. Bagalacsa, Vince Reiner B. Cambri, Railey Royce T. Ballentos, and Dean Anthony Eduardo A. Rimando from Claret School of Quezon City; Aiden Joachim L. Thoss and Tobey Phoenix T. Lim from Temple Hill School; and Princess Gabrielle M. Cecillano from Frames of Mind School.
Mr. Roxan discussed the line-tracing robot project, one of the entries presented in the competition. This robot is essentially designed for use in production lines, engineered to follow a specific path marked by a line to perform tasks such as picking up items along the designated route, allowing the robot to move within an industrial setting.
In addition, the group also shared their SMART Closet project, which won Best Innovation Project in Hong Kong last August. This robot-assisted wardrobe application helps users manage their clothing, with features such as an outfit inventory, an outfit planner, and shopping options. It also uses color-coded categories for different clothing types: blue for formal wear, yellow for casual outfits, red for evening wear, and green for sportswear.
The Ambassador expressed her admiration for the students' creativity and skills in computer and robotics. She encouraged them to continue honing their capabilities so they can also inspire more young people to pursue science and robotics. She likewise emphasized that as they continue to work on their passion for innovation, she hopes their projects will not only make life easier and more comfortable for individuals but also contribute to the broader development of Filipino heritage, its people, and the country as a whole.
Ambassador Paredes also commended the coaches and parents for their dedication and unwavering support. She acknowledged the challenges they faced while continuing to encourage the students in their passions and abilities. She underscored that the success and recognition achieved by the students reflect not only their hard work but also the commitment of their coaches and families. END
