BANGKOK, 10 SEPTEMBER 2024. The 1st Thailand International Choral Festival concluded with outstanding performances from 34 choirs, including four (4) choral groups from the Philippines. The event, held from 3-6 September 2024 at the Thailand Cultural Center, showcased a vibrant exchange of cultural and musical talent.
Representing the Philippines were the De La Salle Santiago Zobel School Chorale, Pansol Choir, RTU Himig Rizalia, and VMA Global College Chorale, all demonstrating the rich tradition of Filipino choral excellence.
Esteemed Filipino conductor Mr. Fidel G. Calalang Jr. served on the festival jury panel. Mr. Calalang, the conductor and artistic director of the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Singers and a faculty member at the UST Conservatory of Music, is internationally recognized for his contributions to choral music.
Two (2) Philippine choirs, namely Pansol Choir and De La Salle Santiago Zobel School Chorale, were selected as Grand Prize Finalists after rigorous rounds of competition. The Grand Prize was ultimately awarded to the Voice of Bali from Indonesia.
The event has set a high standard for choral festivals in the region and has further strengthened cultural ties between the participating countries.
Underscoring the Philippines' commitment to cultural diplomacy and international collaboration through the arts, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Susan Phoebe R. Sabado, and Cultural Attaché Evonne Avril B. Manayao, represented the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok at the opening ceremony on 3 September 2024 at the Thailand Cultural Center. END
