BANGKOK, 20 AUGUST 2024 – The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) of Bangkok hosted the annual "Foster Child Care Meets Parents Day" on Saturday, 17 August 2024, bringing together foster children from various schools in Bangkok, their caregivers, and community supporters for a day dedicated to education, compassion, and cultural appreciation.
Ambassador Paredes attended the event and met with Jirachaya Khlaowklong, a 7-year-old student from Wat Mahabut School. In a touching moment, the Ambassador presented the child with school supplies, snacks, and grocery items, underscoring the commitment to supporting the educational needs and well-being of foster children.
The event began with a traditional Thai dance, "The Dance of Benediction," performed by students from Wat Sai School, followed by an opening prayer by YWCA President Ms. Lantip Dvadasin. The program also featured the lively "Serng Kratip" dance from Northeast Thailand, performed by students from Wat Borom Niwat School. Alongside these cultural presentations, Mrs. Malatee Kosum, Chairwoman of YWCA Social Welfare, presented a report on the Foster Child Care program, highlighting its successes and the importance of community involvement.
The highlight of the event was the scholarship awarding ceremony, where a number of Ambassadors, their spouses, and YWCA Board members presented scholarships to selected students. The event concluded with the recognition of school teachers who have served as dedicated project coordinators, with Certificates of Honor awarded for their contributions.
This annual event is done in honor of Queen Sirikit’s birthday, which Thailand also celebrates as Mother’s Day. - END
