BANGKOK, 06 August 2024 – In a significant step towards strengthening educational ties between the Philippines and Thailand, Ambassador Millicent Cruz Paredes called on the Honorable Police General Permpoon Chidchob, Minister of Education, on 2 August 2024.
During the meeting, Ambassador Paredes noted that approximately 70% of the more than 32,000 Filipino nationals working in the Kingdom are employed as educators in various institutions of learning all over Thailand. She expressed her deep gratitude to the Kingdom and the Thai people for their long-standing hospitality and for providing Filipinos with meaningful employment opportunities over the years. The Ambassador highlighted the positive impact Filipino teachers have made in Thailand’s education system, contributing to their host’s nation-building, as well as fostering cultural and educational exchange between the two nations.
In response, Minister Chidchob shared insights into Thailand's progressive education policies, emphasizing the importance of the "Happy Learning" philosophy, which aims to create a joyful and engaging educational environment for students. He also discussed the focus on "Education with Equity and Quality," which ensures that all students, regardless of their background, have access to high-quality education. Additionally, the Minister reiterated Thailand's commitment to "Education for All," a policy designed to provide inclusive education to every child in the kingdom.
The meeting underscored the shared commitment of both countries to enhance educational collaboration and support initiatives that foster mutual understanding and development. Ambassador Paredes and Minister Chidchob expressed optimism about future partnerships in education, reaffirming their dedication to strengthening the bonds between the Philippines and Thailand. END
