Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of the Kingdom of Thailand made a successful royal visit to the Philippines from 24 to 26 July 2024, held on the auspicious year of the milestone 75th Anniversary of the establishment of Philippines-Thailand diplomatic relations.
Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes, on behalf of the Philippine Government, personally welcomed the Princess in Manila and accompanied Her Royal Highness throughout her working visit in General Santos City.
Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn’s working visit to the Philippines follows a series of visits over the years to monitor the progress of elementary schools that are supported by the Foundation under Her royal patronage. Under the program of the Collaborative Project on Children Youth Development between the Philippines and Thailand, which started in 2014, the Foundation of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn supports six (6) schools across the Philippines to promote better nutrition and better health of the children.
On 24 July 2024 in Manila, the Princess met with the participating school representatives, as well as the Department of Education, to discuss the progress made by Banayon Elementary School (Leyte), Dakung Patag Elementary School (Surigao del Norte), Isaias S. Tapales Elementary School (Antipolo, Rizal), and Bagong Nayon II Elementary School (Antipolo, Rizal).
The Princess also had a private meeting with First Lady Madame Louise Araneta-Marcos and Education Secretary Juan Edgardo M. Angara.
Princess Sirindhorn then traveled to General Santos City and Sarangani Province in southern Philippines on 25-26 July 2024 to personally visit Datu Abdullah Tondog Integrated School and Tokawal Elementary School. There she met with teachers and students, and delighted in the students’ show-and-tell of their vegetable gardens, fish ponds, and other projects that promote knowledge and skill in food production, health, and sanitation.
Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn previously visited the Philippines in 1991, 2009, 2016, and 2019.
In 1991, the Princess received the Ramon Magsaysay Award for Public Service. She visited relief centers in Pampanga for the victims of the Mount Pinatubo eruption and donated to the relief efforts.
During the recently held visit, Philippine Ambassador Paredes conveyed to Her Royal Highness the sincere gratitude of the Philippine Government and Filipino people for the personal support and care for the thousands of Filipino children Her Foundation has helped over the years. END.
