BANGKOK, 31 December 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Thailand celebrated the 127th Rizal Day with a solemn and meaningful ceremony led by Chargé d’Affaires Edna May G. Lazaro. The event was held on 30 December 2023 in front of the Sentro Rizal at the embassy premises.
Accompanying CDA Lazaro was Third Secretary and Vice Consul Susan Phoebe Sabado. They were assisted by the embassy’s Defense and Armed Forces TSgt. Jonathan P. Apolonio and MSgt Walter Alasio in the wreath-laying ceremony, a tradition that honors the memory and sacrifices of Dr. Jose P. Rizal.
Following the solemn commemoration, the Officers and staff of the Philippine Embassy gathered for a small salu-salo, courtesy of CDA Lazaro. The commemoration also included an onsite film viewing of “Maria Clara at Ibarra,” a historical drama fantasy series produced by GMA Network. The film was provided by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.
The film viewing not only served as an entertaining activity but also as a way for the Filipino community in Thailand to connect with their roots and appreciate the rich history and culture of the Philippines.
