BANGKOK, 21 NOVEMBER 2023 – The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok conducted an outreach mission in Pattani Province, Thailand on 18 November 2023 and extended consular services relating to passports, notarials, and civil registry to overseas Filipinos in Southern Thailand. The Embassy rendered a total of ninety-four (94) services including the solemnization of the wedding of a Filipino couple based in Phuket, Thailand who traveled and opted to avail the service in Pattani.

The Embassy further provided overseas voters registration services including to a batch of first-time overseas voters enabling them to vote in the slated midterm Philippine elections in 2025.

In addition, the Embassy organized a Filipino community (FilCom) town hall meeting with Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes during the consular mission. Members of the Filipino community shared their experiences living and working as expatriates in Thailand, as well as some concerns that Ambassador Paredes assured the Philippine Embassy would work on with the concerned authorities.

Ambassador Paredes assured the Filipino community of the Embassy’s constant efforts to promote and protect the welfare of overseas Filipinos in Thailand and to meet their need for services including assistance-to-nationals (ATN) services, to be complemented by the opening of a Migrant Workers Office in Bangkok.

The Honorable Senator Anusart Suwanmongkol, a member of the Thai National Assembly who hails from Pattani, graced the consular mission and town hall meeting with his presence. Echoing Ambassador Paredes in her speech, Senator Anusart lauded the important contribution of Filipinos in Southern Thailand especially to the molding and education of generations of Thai youth. Most of the Filipinos work as educators in schools and universities in the region.

The Province of Pattani, along with Narathiwat, Songkhla, Yala, and Satun, is part of Thailand’s southernmost region which borders Malaysia. Filipinos who availed of the consular and ATN services in the outreach mission in Pattani came from the five (5) provinces and other nearby provinces. END
