Bangkok, 09 March 2023 - Philippine Ambassador to Thailand and Permanent Representative H.E. Millicent Cruz Paredes joined the annual celebration of the Asia-Pacific of International Women’s Day on 08 March 2023 held at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok.
The yearly regional event was organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) and United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN-Women).
This year’s theme was DigitALL: Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality on “the crucial roles held, and contributions made, by women and girls working to transform the world into a more connected place. (source: UNESCAP)”
Filipina entrepreneur Ms. Rhea See was invited to speak on the theme, particularly on her experience in creating a gender-inclusive environment conducive to gender-transformative technology and opportunities. Ms. See is co-founder and co-CEO of She Loves Tech, “a global platform committed to closing the funding gap for women entrepreneurs, and building an ecosystem for technology, entrepreneurship and innovation that creates opportunities for women. Ambassador Paredes congratulated Ms. See on her valuable work in building a more equitable digital world for women and girls, and thanked her for proudly representing all Filipinas at the commemorative event.
The Asia-Pacific Regional Commemoration of International Women’s Day 2023 was convened in conjunction with the ongoing sixty-seventh session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW67) in New York, with the theme “Innovation and technological change, and education in the digital age for achieving gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.”
The Commemoration was also held in conjunction with the annual Ambassadors for a Day program wherein Thai youth advocates shadow women Ambassadors and senior officials of international organizations and Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs for an up-close look at their distinguished careers. END
