08 August 2022, Bangkok – Second Secretary Beatriz Ines L. Herrera-Davila and Cultural Attaché Evonne Avril B. Manayao represented the Philippine Embassy at the opening ceremony of the exhibition entitled “ASEAN Textiles – Raising, Dyeing and Pulling Thread: Sharing Heritage of ASEAN,” which was organized by the Thai Ministry of Culture at the ASEAN Cultural Center, Ratchadamnoen Contemporary Art Center on Sunday, 07 August 2022.

The exhibit was organized by the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Queen Mother’s Birthday; and the 55th Anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN. The exhibit sought to highlight the Queen Mother’s dedication to the modernization of the Thai textile industry, as well as deepen the understanding of the shared cultural heritage of ASEAN textiles.

The exhibit was curated by Asst. Prof. Dr. Anucha Thirakanont Dean of the Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Thammasat University.

For the event’s week-long display, the Embassy loaned different kinds of Filipino textile, including several pieces of inabel from Ilocos and Abra, and malong from Mindanao. The Embassy’s representatives both wore Filipiniana made from piña fabric, to showcase the uniquely Filipino textile.

The Embassy loaned different kinds of Filipino textile for display during the week-long event
