Philippine Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, H.E. Millicent Cruz Paredes, joined other Bangkok-based diplomats in walking the fashion runway at the “11 th Celebration of Silk, Thai Silk Road to the World,” which was held on 28 May 2022 at the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall in Bangkok.
The signature event is held annually with the active participation of the diplomatic corps in Thailand, where diplomats wear Thai silk renditions of their national costumes, to commemorate the efforts and contribution of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother in the development and promotion of the Thai silk industry. The show is part of the Thai government’s efforts to promote Thai silk while enhancing the country’s creative industry through the direct participation of learning institutions and students.
Similar to earlier iterations of the event, technical and vocational schools all over Thailand were tapped to collaborate with the various embassies to design and execute the creations showcased in the 2022 Thai silk collection. Udon Thani Vocational School, located in the northeastern region of Thailand, was this year’s designated partner of the Philippine Embassy.
The fashion event was organized by the Thai Tourist Assistance Foundation, in collaboration with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, the Ministry of Culture and Queen Sirikit’s Department of Sericulture. END
