BANGKOK, 25 APRIL 2022 – Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz Paredes paid an introductory call on Mr. Sayam Sirimongkol, Governor of the Province of Udon Thani, on 21 April 2022.

Ambassador Paredes reaffirmed the commitment of the Philippine Embassy in Bangkok to work closely with the Provincial Government of Udon Thani in ensuring the welfare of Filipinos in the province. Meanwhile, Governor Sayam acknowledged the valuable contribution and role of the Filipino community in Udon Thani’s development and its bid to be a primary tourism and investment destination in Thailand.

As part of the Ambassador’s series of introductory calls on Provincial Governors of Thailand, the meeting also discussed the upcoming major projects in Udon Thani including the province’s hosting of the 2026 International Horticultural Expo and the economic opportunities brought about by the Laos-China high-speed railway.

Udon Thani is a large province in Northeastern Thailand that serves as a gateway to Laos and a major agricultural market center. The province is known for its long tradition of weaving khit pattern fabric and the Ban Chiang UNESCO World Heritage Site. Udon Thani province is host to approximately 200 Filipinos, most of whom are in the education sector. END
