09 March 2022, Bangkok – The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok warmly opened its doors to Thai students Ms. Jiratchaya Sritaksinakul and Ms. Paphasorn Chotjinda in celebration of International Women’s Day on 08 March and as part of the “Ambassador for a Day” program spearheaded by lady Ambassadors to Thailand.
Designated to shadow Philippine Ambassador Millicent Cruz Paredes in order to experience a day-in-the-life of a female envoy, Ms. Sritaksinakul and Ms. Chotjinda attended the International Women’s Day celebration at the UN Conference Center in the morning, followed by an Embassy briefing in the afternoon on the functions and services rendered by the different sections of the Embassy. Ms. Sritaksinakul and Ms. Chotjinda were also given the opportunity to discuss the gender-related advocacies that won them places in the “Ambassador for a Day” program this year, i.e. creating a safe space for women and girls, and empowering women to pursue studies and careers in the fields of science, technology and mathematics (STeM), respectively.
To cap their day as young female “ambassadors-in-training,” Ms. Sritaksinakul and Ms. Chotjinda participated in various Philippine games prepared by the Embassy personnel and were treated to a traditional Filipino merienda.
Already on its second year, the “Ambassador for a Day” program is an initiative of the lady Ambassadors in Bangkok that aims to empower the youth by inspiring them to break through societal impositions of traditional gender roles and careers. Being distinguished women who have reached the top of the field, the Ambassadors lend their voices to highlight the contributions of young people in Thailand on issues affecting women and girls in their communities.END
