POETRY WRITING AND  

RECITATION CONTEST

IN CELEBRATION

OF THE 154th

BIRTH ANNIVERSARY OF

DR. JOSE P. RIZAL

(1861-2015)

 

 

  

 

                      THEME:  RELEVANCE OF DR. JOSE RIZAL IN THE LIFE OF TODAY’S FILIPINO YOUTH

 

 

The Philippine Embassy in Thailand, in cooperation with ARK-Bangkok School House and Ministry Center, will hold a Poetry Writing and Recitation Contest in celebration of the 154th birth anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal on June 19, 2012 starting at 9:00 am.

  

The competition is designed to increase awareness of today’s Filipino youth on the life and works of our national hero, Dr. Jose P. Rizal, through the art of poetry writing and recitation. The competition will also provide the Filipino youth with the opportunity to appreciate their heritage as well as share their learned abilities and talents to the Filipino community in Bangkok.

 

GENERAL MECHANICS:

  1. The contest is open to Filipino and half-Filipino children ages 8 to 16 years old.
  2. Contestants may pre-register by sending an email to the Embassy at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. on or before 17 June 2015 with the following information:

                                          Age, Birthday, Contact Information

 

  1. Walk-in registrants are also welcome.

  2. The competition is on-the-spot. However, the contestants may start practicing ahead of the competition date using the theme as basis of their work.
  3. On the day of the competition, the contestants will be given 1 hour to draft and finalize their poems. If necessary, a ten-minute extension will be given. The poem may be written in either English or Pilipino.
  4. Paper, pencils and pens will be provided by the organizers.
  5. The contestants will be assessed in two phases, namely, Poetry Writing and Poem Recitation.

    

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING

  

Phase I:   Poetry Writing 

 

    1. Relevance to the theme                                                                     -       50%
    2. Creativity/Style and Originality                                                         -       30%
    3. Coherence of form and structure (harmony of words, presentation)    -      10%

    4. Clarity of imagery and language                                                         -      10%

       

       TOTAL  - 100%

 Phase II: Poem Recitation

    

    1. Stage presence and presentation                                                                      -       50%
    2. Poise and spontaneity of recitation                                                                   -       30%

    3. Intonation, poetic expression and a clear insight into the poet’s intention         -       10%

    4. Clarity of spoken words and diction                                                                 -       10%

 

    TOTAL                - 100%
