Ref. No.: Statement-BKPE-66-2024
The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Bangkok joins the Government and people of the Kingdom of Thailand, and the international community, in the commemoration of the 20th Anniversary of the Indian Ocean Tsunami on 26 December 2004. We solemnly remember the more than two hundred thousand lives lost, which included Filipino lives, and the countless more who were affected by the tragedy that hit our region.
We are also in solidarity with the survivors and honor their strength and resilience, together with the emergency responders, volunteers, aid and relief workers, and the wider communities that contributed to the recovery and thereafter rebuilt the affected areas.
Finally, the Embassy reiterates the strongest commitment of the Philippines to the regional and international cooperation on inclusive and sustainable disaster risk response and mitigation, including early warning systems, and climate action. We pray that this tragedy may never happen again.
