The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok has the sad duty to inform the Filipino Community and the general public in Thailand that H. E. Roberto R. Romulo, Philippine Secretary of Foreign Affairs from 1992 to 1995, passed away on 23 January 2022 at the age of 83.

The late Secretary Romulo also served as Philippine Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg, and the European Union Institutions from 1989 to 1992.

Prior to joining public service, Secretary Romulo had a long and distinguished career with IBM, having held marketing and management positions in New York, becoming managing director in Thailand, and eventually President of IBM Philippines. After retiring from government, Secretary Romulo remained actively involved in national, regional and international affairs in the last three decades. He was Founding Chairman of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council, Founding Director of the US-Philippines Society, Chairman of the Carlos P. Romulo Foundation for Peace and Development and Zuellig Family Foundation, and a newspaper columnist espousing the Filipino Worldview.
